Founded in 1735, as an institute of training specialists for mining and metallurgy serving as a model to many polytechnic institutes in the world, the University of Miskolc has always occupied a significant position in the cultivation of sciences, in professional education and training. During the last few decades of the 20th century, the Institution developed into a fully-fledged colorful university with the traditional three technical faculties (Earth Sciences, Materials Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, and Informatics) and the new faculties of Economy, Law, Arts and Humanities, Health Care and Music, also courses of continuing education, or higher-level vocational training. The University has approximately 11.000 students and close to 600 academic staff assisted by an approximately equal number of technical and administrative employees.

Most buildings of the University can be found in Egyetemváros (‘University Town’), a unique and spacious campus, which was built in the fashion of the American campus model and is surrounded by a large park. The University Town – with its 850.000 square meters territory – is a part of the city of Miskolc. Bartók Béla Music Institute, which was integrated into the university in 1997, can be found in the Palace of Music downtown.

The University has cooperation agreements with over 150 foreign universities, along with 160 bilateral agreements in the ERASMUS mobility program. The University of Miskolc is the first Hungarian institution that won the ’Higher Education Quality Award’ in 2008.

The long historical traditions are combined with novel directions in research and education. The high quality of education at the University of Miskolc is demonstrated not only by the number of professional awards received but also by the increasing interest from foreign and Hungarian students to choose the University of Miskolc for pursuing studies at the highest academic level. Our graduates are demanded by a wide scale of potential employers.

Miskolc is a city situated in North-East Hungary and has been mostly known for its industry. It is also the seat of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County and the scientific and cultural center of the North Hungarian Region.

From Miskolc, the famous Tokaj wine region is within easy reach and nice excursions can be taken to the nearby mountains and lakes, or to historical towns including Eger, Sárospatak, and the beautiful Szilvásvárad.

In the heart of Central Europe, there is a university you must get to know. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics, or as we simply call BME, has a rich past – as it was created in 1782. BME is the first place in Hungary where engineers were educated at the university level, while the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering itself was created in 1871.

The campus is located in Budapest (capital of Hungary), next to the River Danube, the most international river in the world connecting 10 countries.

The city has a medieval castle district with palaces, cultural sites, and historical downtown, full of attractions. Budapest is surrounded by extensive forests to the West, ideal for hiking. If you'd wanted to recharge yourself after a day's hiking, did you know that Budapest has a district with unique, so-called 'ruin pubs'? Of course, you can find not only pubs but loads of clubs and street food places all around. And all within less than 10 minutes journey with Budapest's dense public transport network.

Suppose you decide to chill out after your lectures. No problem! You can have a nice walk on the 200-metre Gellért hill (with a gorgeous view of our beautiful city) or visit the Gellért thermal spa (built in the 1200s). By the way, the city has 14 spas and aquaparks, providing a wide choice of options for recreation.

On summer weekends, the historic Liberty Bridge (also within a few minutes' walk from the Uni) becomes a pedestrian-only bridge with live concerts, jam sessions, or even open-air yoga lessons.

BME has 3 Nobel Prize laureates; one of them was a student and lecturer of our Faculty: Dénes Gábor, who earned the Nobel Prize for discovering hologram, Theodor von Kármán, 'father of rocket technology' in the USA, and László Heller, the creator of the Heller cooling system for power plants.

If you are unsure which field to choose within mechanical engineering, we have some good news. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers BSc in Mechanical Engineering in two specializations: Process Engineering and Engineering Design and Technology. On the MSc level, your opportunities are even broader; our MSc Mechanical Engineering Modelling offers five specializations:

• Design and Technology,
• Thermal Engineering,
• Solid Mechanics
• Fluid Mechanics and
• Nuclear Engineering.

From the specializations, you have to choose two, a major and a minor. Nuclear Engineering can be chosen as a single major+minor spec.

At BME, there is a wide range to spend your free time. At first, BME has a vibrant social life: concerts, parties lasting until dawn, where you vent your steam and have fun.

McDaniel College Budapest Campus is registered in Hungary as a foreign institution of higher education by the permission of the Hungarian Minister for Education. For liberal arts-oriented students, it offers a standard American four-year undergraduate program in Hungary with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, valid for the USA and EU.

From the more than 40 majors offered at McDaniel’s main campus, seven are offered at the Budapest campus: Business Administration, Economics, Political Sciences and International Studies, Communication, Psychology, Art History and Studio Arts. McDaniel College encourages explorative, multilayered intellectual and professional exploration, meaning students often tackle more than one major as well as study in other areas offered on our campus, such as Journalism and Media, Cinema Studies, Marketing, and History. The resultant interdisciplinarity makes McDaniel College one of the most attractive higher education institutions in this region.

In addition, the Budapest Campus introduced a special study track for those international students who are interested about life sciences, strengthening their opportunities to be eligible for further studies at medical and veterinary fields.
