The Courses

All our courses are inspired by the concept of active learning, carefully balancing theory and practice to ensure that our students develop critical and autonomous thinking skills alongside specific professional competences.

Humanitas University prepares its students to thrive in the clinical and research areas in Italy or overseas. An international and stimulating environment frames all our courses at Humanitas University. We seek to support our students’ personal and professional growth and believe in nurturing a spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and responsibility.

Today Humanitas University hosts more than 2000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Undergraduate students are divided into different courses:

• 200 per year for the MD in Medicine and Surgery (English);
• 100 per year for the MD in MEDTEC School (English);
• 265 per year for a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Italian);
• 50 per year for a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy (Italian);
• 30 per year for a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques (Italian);
• 30 per year for a Bachelor's degree in Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques (Italian);
• 30 per year for a Bachelor's degree in Osteopathy (Italian);

Integration with Humanitas hospitals

Humanitas is the first Italian hospital to be quality-certified as an Academic Hospital by the Joint Commission International. It is one of the most technologically advanced European hospitals and internationally renowned for its research on immune system diseases. Humanitas has specialist units treating oncological, cardiovascular, neurological, orthopedic, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. It also has a top Eye Centre, an outstanding Fertility Centre, and a highly specialized Accident and Emergency department. Medical assistance, supported by the best professional knowledge and a multidisciplinary approach, is complemented by constant research activities aimed at improving and personalizing treatment. IRCCS Istituto Clinico Humanitas heads a group of hospitals in Italy, located in Milan, Bergamo, Castellanza, Turin, and Catania.

International dimension

Humanitas attracts young people from Italy and from all over the world and offers the opportunity to engage in a unique kind of education. It is an international hub for the training of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and researchers capable of dealing with future scientific, technological and social change. The close integration between the Hospital, the Research Laboratories, and the University creates the conditions for healthcare professionals to gain experience by working closely with patients and at the same time acquire the methodology and rigor that scientific research requires – a means to creating synergy between clinical and laboratory practice in an educational context.

Moreover, students can live study experience abroad thanks to the international network with research centers and foreign medical Institutions.

An integrated approach for education and training

At Humanitas University, an integrated teaching approach ensures that our future doctors acquire theoretical knowledge alongside clinical skills. The multi-disciplinary teaching methods include problem-based and experience-based learning. The first approach encourages students to develop analytical and reflective skills required during clinical practice; the second focuses on independent research, decision making, and teamwork. Simulation also plays a fundamental role in medical training – it is the place where students can learn in a safe and controlled environment under the supervision of tutors, whose role is to facilitate the learning process as the objectives become progressively more challenging, ranging from history taking and procedural skills, to high-fidelity simulation of patient management in complex clinical scenarios.

Presentation

The University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli" was established in 1991 (Decree MURST, 25 March) with the aim of relieving the overcrowded conditions of the major Neapolitan university known as the “Federico II”. On the official date of November 1st, 1991, the University of Campania began to function autonomously with nineteen thousand enrollments and eight faculties located in five different territorial areas of Caserta and Naples. Currently, there are thirty thousand students attending the University’s 19 Departments. The University’s multi-campus structure has two offices for its Rector: one in Naples and one in the Royal Palace of Caserta.

The University of Ferrara offers a unique historical environment. Magnificent reminiscences of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance live on in palaces, houses, churches, museums, squares, courtyards and alleys. Far from being shrouded in the past, Ferrara is a cyclist- and pedestrian-friendly sustainable town where young people can experience a high quality of life, take advantage of well-maintained infrastructures, and pleasantly blend in. Unife History

The University of Ferrara, one of Italy’s oldest universities, has welcomed and educated illustrious personalities from the worlds of culture, the Arts, and Science, such as Nicholas Copernicus and Paracelsus.

The University of Ferrara was founded in 1391 by the Marquise Alberto V of Este with the permission of Pope Boniface IX. The first courses to be inaugurated were Arts, Theology, and Law and were taught by famous teachers such as Bartolomeo Saliceto, an expert among jurists.

During the 15th and 16th centuries, Ferrara became one of the most thriving centers of Italian Renaissance culture and the University enjoyed a period of great prestige, thanks also to the presence of illustrious intellectuals such as Nicholas Copernicus and Paracelsus. After its assimilation into the Papal State in 1598, the University was transformed from a prestigious Estensi City University to a University in the outskirts. In the Napoleonic Age, with the plan for national universities, the University lost its power to grant degree titles and normal academic activity did not resume until 1816. After the unification of Italy, the University of Ferrara became a free university. In the years preceding the First World War, with over 500 students, the University was the most highly attended free university in Italy. The identity of the University is therefore rooted in a historical and cultural tradition which sets it apart from others. Since its foundation, it has welcomed and educated illustrious personalities from the worlds of Culture, the Arts and the Sciences. In terms of its size, facilities, and the quality and quantity of education and research, the university is a point of excellence within Italy. This is also demonstrated by its excellent position in international rankings.

Nicholas Copernicus

b. 1473 Torun, Pomerania - d. 1543 Frauenburg

The Polish astronomer was the author of “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium”, in which the Ptolemaic conception is overturned, presenting a system in which the sun is the center of the universe.

The Copernican theory is fundamental for the development of astronomic science and represents the beginning of modern astronomy.

Paracelsus

b.1493 Einsiedeln, Switzerland - d. 1541 Salzburg

A physician and philosopher, he was one of the most important and complex figures of Renaissance science.

He integrated Aristotle’s theory of the four elements and rejected the traditional teachings of medicine, thus giving life to a new discipline: iatrochemistry, based on the treatment of diseases using mineral substances.

Giovanni Pico of Mirandola

b. 1463 Mirandola (Mo) - d. 1494 Florence

One of the most celebrated Italian philosophers and humanists, he was a friend of Marsilio Ficino, Lorenzo the Magnificent, and Angelo Poliziano.

Among his most famous works are “Oratio de hominis dignitate” and the nine hundred articles containing philosophical and theological problems.

Department of Economics and Management

The Department of Economics and Management (DEM) was created in 2013 from the previous Department of Economics, Institutions and Territory founded in 1997.

The Department is characterized by a highly multidisciplinary nature and its main teaching and research fields include economics, business and law.

Our teaching team includes over 40 professors and researchers, 9 technicians, and about 30 research fellows, graduate students, and collaborators.

Our postgraduate degree program provides an ideal balance between academic theory, business practice, and current affairs.

Starting from the 2015-2016 academic year, the Department of Economics and Management renews its educational offer by launching four new highly specialized master's degree programs, so as to provide strong professional skills with special attention to international issues. Two of these courses (Small and Medium Enterprises in International Markets and Green Economy and Sustainability) will be entirely taught in English. They are addressed to students from Italy and other countries who are interested in experiencing an advanced learning environment in order to gain a deep understanding of the economic scenario and competitive global economy.
