Globalisation is shaping the world in which we live. In the BA International Studies, you have the opportunity to study one of eight world regions within the context of global interactions. At the same time, you will learn a key language of your chosen region and acquire skills that will prove to be highly valuable for your future career. #### Become an expert on the world region of your choice The International Studies programme will provide you with the tools to explore and analyse the forces of globalisation and their impact around the world. In doing so, you will acquire in-depth knowledge of one of eight world regions and learn one of the key languages. Our multifaceted approach will allow you to interpret and analyse the world from a humanities perspective. In order to be able to do this, you will explore the historical and cultural background of the region of your choice, as well as its political and economic developments. #### What will you learn International Studies is a multidisciplinary study programme, which means that you will use different disciplinary perspectives to analyse the world. These disciplinary perspectives of International Studies are culture & language, history, politics and economics and they are crucial for a well-rounded understanding of globalisation. You will be taught by lecturers with backgrounds in those disciplines, which will allow you to acquire a broad foundation in the field of International Studies. At the same time, you will gain in-depth knowledge about the regional specialisation of your choice, while also learning to speak, read and write one of this region’s major languages. This will give you a unique perspective on global and regional developments. **Would you like to become an expert on the cultures, languages and politics of Europe?** The degree program in European Languages and Cultures (in Dutch: ETC, Europese Talen en Culturen) is designed to meet the growing need for academically trained experts with: * a deep understanding of the major social, political, cultural and linguistic questions in and about Europe today, and * excellent language skills in one or two of the following languages: German, English, French, Italian, Dutch as a second language, Russian, Spanish or Swedish, called 'major language'. By studying the key linguistic, political, cultural and social topics of contemporary Europe, you will learn to understand the mutual relationship, differences and similarities among national and regional cultures. In doing so, you will learn to understand future challenges and inform advanced decision-making in cultural, political and educational institutions. The program has a flexible structure. From your second year onward, you will specialise in one of the profiles: * European Language and Society * European Culture and Literature * European Politics and Society During your third year, you can study abroad. The second and third year comprises of subject-related courses taught in your major language. In addition, you can choose to specialise further by means of a Minor, elective courses and/or a short placement. Your Bachelor's degree is finalised with a thesis. #### Research Teaching and research are closely intertwined at the University of Groningen. All professors and most of the lecturers who teach your course units are also conducting research in their own subject fields. The Bachelor of arts (BA) in psychology with an emphasis on mental health is designed to provide an understanding of how cognitive, behavioural, personality and social factors are involved in mental health and illness. Students who have completed the degree will be prepared to pursue a variety of graduate and career opportunities within mental health-oriented fields (e.g. counselling, nursing, psychology, and social work). Students graduating with a Bachelor of arts (BA) in psychology with an emphasis on mental health will need to pursue a graduate degree before they can obtain professional licensure.
