What causes diseases? How can they be diagnosed and prevented? By integrating knowledge from the molecular level with what happens in the body, this program teaches you about the human body and homeostasis both as a whole and as an independent system. The knowledge generated through this program will provide the basis to understand how genetics, environment, and lifestyle affect our health, to create new tools and methods to improve health and the diagnosis of diseases and to develop effective new drugs. The Biomedicine study program is an international program given completely in English. From autumn 2021 the program is updated with a stronger focus on the employment market for biomedicine, medical research, and digital health. The program gives you a broad education, from chemistry and medical biochemistry to cell and human biology, anatomy, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, physiology, infection biology, and the biomedical basis of diseases. #### **The Focus of Your Studies** The curriculum consists of basic courses in biology and chemistry, to acquire the necessary knowledge for continued studies and you will get a good basic knowledge of how the body of a healthy person works. You will then continue to study various disease onsets/occurrences and how drugs are used to cure diseases. You will be trained in laboratory practices and scientific methods. During the final semester, you will choose your thesis subject area within the field of biomedicine, which can be carried out either at an academic institution or at companies, such as a pharmaceutical company, in Sweden or abroad. #### **Study Abroad** International experience and intercultural competence have become very important. During year two you can choose to study part of the program abroad at one of our international partner universities. A semester or two at a university abroad will increase your chances for an international career or to work for a multinational company. Exchange studies also give you improved language skills, new perspectives, and an international network. There are various options for studying abroad, depending on what you study and where you want to go. Students are encouraged to study part of the program at one of our international partner universities, including King's College London. #### **Research** Most senior members of the teaching staff at the department also carry out active research, in some cases as part of major research projects.
