Bilkent University is recognized and ranked worldwide as the premier institution of higher education in Turkey. Bilkent University - the first private, nonprofit university in Turkey - was founded on October 20, 1984, by Professor İhsan Doğramacı, M.D., with the fundamental aim of creating a center of excellence in higher education and research. The name "Bilkent" exemplifies this aim since it is an acronym of "bilim kenti": Turkish for "city of learning and science." Located in the country's capital city Ankara, a vibrant metropolis of 5 million, the university serves a hub of academic, social, and cultural activity.

Bilkent University was founded in 1984 as Turkey's first private, non-profit institution of higher education. With world-renowned scholars among its faculty and top-notch facilities throughout its campus, Bilkent attracts many of Turkey's brightest high school graduates. The university hosts nearly 12,000 students pursuing degrees in 29 undergraduate and 59 graduate programs.

Education

The university provides an interdisciplinary education across its three faculties with eleven undergraduate programs. At SU, students have the chance to choose their majors after their first or second academic year.
